Black History Month Unity Forum

On Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Wang Center, Kevin Powell will serve as a moderator during the Black History Month Unity Forum.

Powell is an entrepreneur, poet and writer in the field of entertainment and Hip-Hop. Some of his work includes: producing programing for BET and HBO; hosting and writing about post-riot Los Angeles for an MTV documentary and writing screenplays. Powell is also an activist against violence towards women and has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

He has lectured at colleges, universities, prisons, conferences and community centers in 48 states.

During BHM Unity Forum, Powell will lead a discussion with student leaders about the importance of collaborative planning, student leadership and cultural identity. His dialogue coincides with Black History Month, which runs from Feb 1. to Feb. 28.

If I cover this event, I would live tweet key points Powell and student leaders discuss. I would also tweet about the audiences reaction and any questions that arise.

In covering this event, I think its also important to tweet about Powell’s previous works and activism. This way the Twitter community may have a better understanding of his background.
